I bought some Coleus and New Guinea Impatiens for my new patio planter. I needed annuals that lived happily in half-sun and half-shade. I'm babysitting them for a few weeks by keeping them in the garage during the night and bringing them outside during the day until I feel comfortable planting them outside permanently. Can't wait to start planting!
Road trip! The Longhorn Valley Greenhouse is a short, scenic drive from La Crosse, located only four miles outside of La Crescent, Minnesota. Once a commercial operation only (since 1984), the business is now open to the public. Named for the Texas Longhorn cattle that are raised onsite, beef selections are also available for purchase. If you are looking for annuals, hanging baskets, vegetables, or specialty pots for your yard, this is the place to go! The 1.5 acre greenhouse is expansive -- an explosion of color! Tons of selections and different varieties of plants are available. The staff are very attentive and helpful. If you decide to visit, keep in mind that they are only open from April 10th until June 10th. See their Facebook page for more info.
