I may be just one person, who grows just one garden, but my chemical-free yard does make a difference.

My flower garden:
  • reduces pollution and purifies the air by absorbing carbon dioxide and  releasing oxygen.
  • reduces greenhouse gases.
  • helps to remove chemicals and bacteria from water in the ground.
  • supports beneficial insects, bees, frogs, butterflies, birds, and bats to name just a few.
  • has plants, trees, and shrubs that can absorb sound and help with noise pollution.
  • assists with reducing water run-off and soil erosion.
  • provides beauty and tranquility, keeps me fit, but most of all -- makes me happy.

Absolutely! And mine also provides tomatoes - lots of tomatoes - for me to "put up" for use over the next year, and to share with others!
I garden in Iowa. We have a 1/2 acre suburban lot and most of the back yard is flowers. We do also have 7 raised beds, one for herbs, one for and the rest for vegetables. Daylilies are one of my favorite flowers. Favorite plants include 'Purple Crowned Fairy,' 'Custard Candy,' 'Strawberry Candy,' 'Perfect Pink Princess,' 'Raspberry Mountain,' 'Triple Cherries,' 'Bold Stripe,' and 'Joel.' To me, daylilies = memories. Many I received from friends and family, several I purchased when traveling and then there are those I've also bought from my couch. lol Other plant favorites include hardy hibiscus, foxglove, coneflowers and lupines. I have about 20 lupines growing in various spots in the garden. I plant them from seed. I plant some most every year as they are a short-lived perennial and this way I'll always have some. :) One more thing: I had a blog that is still online but no longer active called Beyond the Garden Gate. http://beyondthegardengate-beth.blogspot.com You can get a view of my gardens there if you like.
Well, enough about me. I am so enjoying your blog.
Blessings, Beth
